A “Wendy box” is another name for a fireproof safe filing box I created for a client about a year ago. It’s simply a hanging fireproof filing box I bought at Staples. For this client, I created individual files for each of the six family members.
Each family member has their own file for their vital documents, which can include:
- Passports
- Social Security cards and birth certificate
Other documents in the vital docs file should include:
- Car titles
- Marriage and divorce certificates
- Name change and death certificates
- Jewelry and art appraisals
- Estate plans
- Insurance policies
While I usually call it the Vital Docs box, they stamped it The Wendy Box. I’m fine with that for a more important reason than the following testimonial:
“We love that box!”
Their reaction tells me that the Wendy box has come in quite handy over the past year.
No more scrambling for documents you may never need more than once a year, if even that.
Knowing exactly where your passport is at all times (why do these documents only become hard to find when you’re about to travel abroad?).
Always knowing that these items are safe from fire, water damage or other unexpected occurrences.
This may not sound like something to get that excited about. Yet if you have ever not been able to find a document or had something that was essentially irreplaceable damaged or lost, it’s a pretty big deal.
The Wendy box was but one thing I did for this particular family. Clearly it made a mark.
