This line is stuck in my head. No, I haven’t been listening to old Elvis or Willie Nelson CDs. It’s something a client from a while back recently wrote to me.
“You are always on my mind. Every time I open a drawer. Or go into a room.”
The backdrop for this testimonial is that I had not done work for this client for more than two and a half years. Somehow her e-mail had not been added to the list for my newsletter.
So, she literally had not heard a peep from me. Yet the work we did together on her home provided a daily reminder. And that reminder—thinking of me—reinforces the lessons she learned. That’s actually far more important.
Why do I say that?
Because even people who know better need that reinforcement. Some of those people even have training as a professional organizer. Like my contractor friend, who recently referred me to one of her renovation clients. Here’s what she wrote in her referral note:
“I have referred Wendy and worked with her for many years even in my own home! Even though I’ve done home organizing professionally, I much prefer working with Wendy at my own home because she really helps me push through some of the emotional connections to things and helps me decide what to keep and how to store it to make life easier day-to-day. She’s cheerful and flexible and at the end of the day, I always feel so grateful to have her help.”
It makes perfect sense. Most coaches—business or otherwise—have coaches. So, it stands to reason that a former organizer would seek out a professional for help in organizing as she realizes that she is too close to it to make some difficult choices.
